Conclusion

The Filipino youth of today are living under the huge shadow cast by the mass media. Whether we like it or not, mass media has already taken the job of educating the youth about what is right and what is wrong. Radio, TV, and more recently the Internet has had a great impact on the sensibilities of the Filipino youth.

This paper has explored the habits and usage of Filipino youth of the Internet and all that it has to offer. Although there is more to mass media than just the Internet, this paper has not covered the popularity of text messaging or of radio stations and TV shows in promoting the message of the Bible. The Internet tends to be used more in urban settings, yet, slowly, it is also creeping to the countryside and even among the youth who belong to the lower strata of the Filipino society.

Based on the usage of young Filipinos of the Internet, several strategies have been suggested in promoting the Bible among the Filipino youth. These strategies should be used in conjunction with the broader framework of reaching out to the youth. This paper has also called for the creation of a center for youth culture studies to help monitor trends in the society that affect youth culture.

Further research should be conducted to assess the Bible reading habits of Filipino youth and the factors that affect this habit. In addition to that, the impact of other media such as text messaging should also be analyzed so that these media can also be used effectively in propagating the message of the Bible.

  1. This has been a topic for so many TV shows and papers. And it seems that the writings and the information were quite one-sided. Humanity must admit that Mass media is definitely living and empowering the society nowadays. Despite the justification rendered on so many discussion on TVs, in the end, media’s image becomes a threat to youth especially to those who never had personal control. The fact that Internet is now all over, up to the extent that even a grade schooler from country side is getting addicted, is just a proof that it’s definitely unstoppable. it’s just a matter of personal control and discernment.This is just how things are going to be and it is applicable to christianity as part of the revelations and signs.Now, if the christian organizations are trying to reach the youth via mass media, I suggest to make the virtual rendevouz an exciting and lively one. Youth nowadays, doesn’t have the luxury of time to read a bunch of articles for education. Christian teaching and Youth’s interest must blend to attract them, and eventually find them looking for more.

I, myself, am proof to that.The problem is that a lot of Christian groups and churches have failed to take advantage of the power of media. The sad fact is, it’s also difficult to compete with secular media. Whoever put the divide between Christian and secular anyway? :pI remember Christianster, an attempt on Christian online social networking. I think it ran out of subscribers because lack of innovation.Well, Christian groups should focus on two fronts: one is to use media in getting its message across. The second front is educating young people (and the not so young, too) in responsible use of media. These are big challenges, though.
