By Rey De Dios UMYFP President, Central Luzon Philippines Annual ConferenceBeing a servant of the Lord in His vineyard, it is not our duty totally to serve the people instead the Lord Jesus Christ so that no one could blame us what things we are going to do. It’s difficult to pretend that you can do everything; you can act as a perfect Christian, you can commit all your time, all your best, and you can do that others want you to, you could be a great leader…you…you…you, all eyes could be focused only in yourself.I know that while I am delivering these observations and our general insights, there might be a lot of people who will react. Please be fair and be guided by love.I would like to give my testimony as a student and as a leader. I’ve been in this ministry as an officer for almost 6 years now. I enjoyed every moment of my life serving the Lord. Masaya, nakaka-bless because of abundant blessings He is pouring into my life and even into my family. That’s the reason why I never give up. I’m in my fourth year in college now. Hopefully, I will graduate in October with His grace and blessings. I have my busy schedule in school, but I’ve tried to do everything to continue the ministry I have now in our conference. Why am I saying this you my dear friends? It’s because I don’t even have the chance to explain my part. Tao lang din po kami na nagkakamali at may hangganan.I told myself that I will not give up in this ministry. But there are times that I want to quit and to escape because of discouraging remarks and actions from our co-workers. There are a lot of criticisms, judgments and condemnation of our actions, particularly the honest mistakes we made. How can I continue the service if I have the mind of being afraid with every next action I should do. We, youth, sometimes feel that we can never please other people. Thankfully, we are reminded of Colossians 3:23 that we do everything as unto the Lord. But please, make your observations fair.As the annual conference youth president of CLPAC, I would like to be the channel of our youth who do not have the power to express their feelings and what is in their hearts. Our young leaders in our church can make a difference even if there are risks that they encounter. It’s hard to keep our feelings inside every time we receive negative comments instead of helping us correct our mistakes. When I attended the National Peace Security Conference in Subic as a youth representative of Region III, there were a lot of famous personalities who spoke about the issues faced by the youth. One of our speakers was Sec. Gilbert Teodoro who discussed the importance of youth in the nation. He pointed out that the youth is the best stage to start a better nation. The young people can be molded into a brilliant gem. Hence, the youth should take care of their future. The most memorable lines I could remember was when he said “Why are we blaming the president? our leaders? We also have a big role for a change, to make something significant. Kaya dun ko naramdaman na mahalaga ang ginagampanan naming mga kabataan because we are your future toward a future with hope. It’s an honor for the UMYF and for the UMYAF to have an opportunity to deliver this address. I think because of our numbers and population in the organization. Don’t react too much. I thank God because we have been given the chance to open our hearts to really expose what are inside. If we do not reveal what is in our hearts, I am afraid that one day, our yough will simply disappear and with a single snap, they will be converted to other denominations. We don’t want that to happen. Maybe after I deliver this address, there will be a number of reactions–both positive and negative. But the good thing is we have underwent self-assessment and maybe God touched your hearts. For our final words, we, the UMYFP are expecting a lot from you for change. We are hoping for a better conference and a better church. God loves us and He loves our church. Let us give back our love to Him towards our service in the UMC.Thank you for lending your ears to the voice of the youth. God bless us all.
