Welcome to Pinoy Youth dot Org
I presented a paper on the Web, the Word, and the Youth during the first ever Philippine Bible Forum held on November 19, 2007 at the Philippine Bible Society Ministry Center at the United Nations Avenue, Ermita, Manila. From this presentation, I thought of launching a website that deals with the issues, the concerns, and the interests of young people in the Philippines.
We need a means of tracking and observing Filipino youth culture. What are the interests of this generation? How do they view the social, political, economic, and cultural forces at work in their lives and in their societies? More importantly, how do they deal with the various changes occurring within them?
These were the questions I had when I brainstormed with some friends and fellow youth leaders about the need for a think-tank or at least a group that monitors the trends and the culture of the youth in our society.
The result of such brainstorming is Pinoy Youth dot Org, a means to monitor youth culture and become a resource hub for youth, young adults and Filipino youth ministers. This site will monitor trends and changes in youth culture and how the youth are dealing with the issues that they are facing.
Any data generated here will be the basis for policy recommendations and suggestions to organizations and ministries dealing with the youth. The project will produce articles and materials for youth and young adults. Along the process, I wish to write a youth ministry handbook that is distinctly Pinoy. These kinds of materials are sorely lacking in the Philippines.
Pinoy Youth will engage in the following activities to accomplish its goals:
Research. Pinoy Youth will engage in research that asks youth directly about their perceptions on various issues that they are facing. Any pressing issues affecting them will be studied. Hopefully, the findings in the research projects will be published here at Pinoy Youth, and hopefully, in articles, books, and other means so that the youth, young adults, and organizations can access them.
Gather the youth’s faith and adventure stories. There’s nothing like gathering youthful stories in empowering young people in their life journey.
Participate in forums and activities geared for youth. I’m going to attend forums and other activities directed to young people.
This site will deal with various issues such as Sexuality and Gender, Substance and electronic addictions, Poverty, Education, Career, Spirituality, Politics, Apathy and Involvement, Globalization, OFWS and migration, Culture, Morality and righteousness, Rural development, and Materialism among others.
